In fashion photography, like any creative field, working on personal projects are important to keep you creatively energized and remind you of why you fell in love with your art form in the first place, which in my case is fashion photography.
Over the last 18 months as many creatives have been riding out the pandemic we have had far too much time to think about what the other side of the pandemic looks like for our respective fields and wonder if we have a place in the new normal.
It had been a long time since i had worked on a personal project. I have always had a hard time with concepts around personal projects because the truth is my love is fashion photography and that is what I shoot for a living. But my other true love is yoga. I try to practice yoga at least 5 or 6 days a week.
For over a year I had tried to put together a yoga based shoot around a concept I had in mind but it would take a very specific model: a model willing to work on a personal project, that included nudity, and who had to be an expert in the practice of yoga.
In the last 18 months I had this shoot scheduled on three separate occasions with a different model, but it fell through each time. So I shelved the shoot for 9 months, actually truth be told I had given up on the shoot. Then I approached a yoga teacher I had recently started practicing with again. She was not only a yoga instructor but also a model represented by NEXT Models— Krystina Holbrook was the perfect yoga model for the project.
We met up for coffee and discussed the shoot and what my vision was, and she agreed. And after 18 months the shoot finally came together and it completely reinvigorated me creatively.
I want to share just a few previews from the shoot and we plan on release the rest of the images very soon and they will be able to be seen on my website I could not be happier with the results.
By completing this project I feel creatively inspired and I connected with a wonderful person whom i continue to practice yoga with.
The majority of the project was shot on medium format film, such as the images below.
The images below are just previews and the full set will be released soon.
